Ultraviolet (UV) is known to be an effective disinfectant treatment for water due to its strong germicidal (inactivating) ability. UV disifects water containing bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms present in the water supply.
UV has been used for many years in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, beverage and electronics industries. With the high cost of chemicals and an increased awareness for the health of the environment, UV is being used much more widely these days for disinfecting water supplies managed by local and state governments and industries of all types and sizes including farming communities.
